The Power of Focus

Matt. 6:22 (KJV)

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

Matt. 6:23 (KJV)

But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

The light of the body is the eye. This is not talking about your natural eye. Jesus is talking about the eye of your heart. He’s talking about the way you see things. You have eyes on the outward man and eyes on the inward man. Paul prayed for the Church at Ephesus that the eyes of their understanding would be enlightened:

Eph 1:18

Your sight is your vision. If your eye is single, your whole body shall be full of light.

Your eye being single is focus. If you focus on the right things it will cause you to be successful. If your eye is evil or seeing double you will not succeed. People who lack clear focus, make bad decisions and don’t get what they want out of life. They want to do better, but just wanting to won’t make it happen.

To achieve a high level of success in life, you must be focused. Your focus determines your future or where you are going. Ask yourself this question, is what you’re doing right now going to take you where you want to go 5, 10, 15 or 20 years from now? If not, change it.

The Chinese definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. If you practice habits that will not cause you to succeed, change those habits and replace them with habits that will lead to success. It’s really that simple.

Successful people focus on the important and necessary and unsuccessful people focus on the unimportant and unnecessary. There are certain kind of light that scatter light, and then there is laser light which is focused light. Some people’s vision is like scattered light. They are not focused on anything, but they are constantly busy with activity after activity. They scurry about with no sense of direction or purpose. We need to be like a laser and focus on vision. Some people don’t stay on anything long enough to get anything to work. Be like a laser and keep your focus on your dream until it comes into reality, no matter how long it takes. Ask yourself the question, “What’s one thing that if I do it well, it would have a huge impact on my life?

Tiger Woods has tremendous focus. When he putts he stares down the imaginary line; he invisions between the ball and the hole. He’s not focused on the millions of dollars that he’s making. He’s not thinking about the next hole or what will happen if he wins or loses the tournament. The only thing on his mind is the shot at hand.

Take one of your goals and ask yourself what one thing can I do right now that will bring me closer to my goal. Now schedule some time to do that thing, and when you do it, focus completely on the task at hand and don’t go on to something else until it’s completed. Give that task your undivided attention. Focus on what you want to happen and where you want to go in your life, not on what you don’t want to happen or where you don’t want to go.

Golf teachers teach that when you’re on a hole that has water on the left and trees on the right, you shouldn’t focus on the water or the trees, because when you do that you will often hit the ball there, because that’s what you are focusing on. You should focus on the fairway, where you want to hit the ball. In other words, focus on the target.

Set goals and plan for the accomplishment of your goals. Decide what you want to be, what you want to accomplish 5, 10, 15 years from now. Once those goals are set, plan steps to take for the completion of your goals.

I am having hard time focusing, my husband diagnosed with dementia last August I quit job to care for him which became impossible, he is in nursing home now. I am at such a lost at what to do, I have oilfield experience from 80&90’s but it seems no one wants to hire people over 55. I am so trying not to get in depression rut. I do attend church Sunday, Monday and Wednesday and I am in support group, I am so afraid and feel alone.
